If you're anything like me, there are probably some e-mail messages you want to get rid of pronto such as spam and some you'd like to keep and reread whenever you want. With MSN TV, you can choose from a few different ways of storing and organizing e-mail; read on to learn more about them.

Keeping messages in your Mail list
Don't want to have to do anything to store your mail? A truly effortless way of storing messages is to simply keep them in your Mail list after you've read them. But that's sort of like keeping every piece of postal mail you receive in a big pile on your desk: it can get a bit overwhelming and a bit disorganized. Besides, since your MSN TV e-mail account has storage space for about 500 average-size messages, you could wind up with one super long Mail list. Luckily, there's a better option: you can create storage folders in Mail.

Creating storage folders
In a few easy steps, you can set up storage folders that let you keep track of messages you've sent, saved and discarded. Keep your Mail list short and sweet by moving messages you want to keep into your Saved folder. Delete something by accident? Simply fetch it from your Discarded folder (within a few days, after which time deleted mail is gone for good). Want to keep a copy of the masterpiece e-mail you just sent? Pop on over to your Sent folder and save the message you want.
If you haven't already set up mail storage folders, you'll need to do that. If you don't see the word Storage in the menu on the left side of your Mail list, your folders don't yet exist. Follow these steps to create them:
- From your Mail list, choose Settings.
- On the Settings page, choose Extras.
- Choose the box labeled Create a storage area for your saved, sent, and discarded messages. A check mark will appear in the box.
- Choose Done, and then choose Done on the main Settings page.
- You'll return to your Mail list, where you'll see a Storage option on the left side of the page.

Getting to your mail storage folders
Once you've created your folders, you can get to them by choosing Storage from your Mail list. In the storage area, you'll see three folders: Saved, Sent, and Discarded. Saved holds the messages you've saved. Sent keeps copies of the e-mail you've written and sent. Discarded temporarily keeps the messages you've deleted. The Sent and Discarded folders are automatically cleaned out every few days; messages in your Saved folder will stay there until you discard them.

Saving and discarding messages
How do you save a message in the first place? Just choose Save from the menu on the left side of the screen when you're reading a message, and it'll be stored in your Saved folder.
All messages you send are automatically saved to your Sent folder, where they'll stay for a few days unless you move them to your Saved folder. To save a message from your Sent or Discarded folder, choose the message you want, and then choose Save from the left-hand menu.
To keep your Mail list and your Sent folder clean and organized, you may want to go through them every once in a while and discard the messages you no longer want. To discard messages from your Mail list, choose the Clean up button from the menu on the left side of the page. On the Clean up page, check the box next to each message you want to delete, and then choose Discard.
To get rid of messages you've put in your Saved folder, go to the folder, check the box next to the messages you want to junk, and then choose Discard. Remember, you'll have about two days after deleting an e-mail message to retrieve it from your Discarded folder.

Making room for mail
Your MSN TV mail account lets you store up to 500 average-size messages altogether in your Mail list and your Saved mail folder. Once you've reached your limit, you won't be able to receive new messages until you clear out some space.
Messages with audio and picture attachments take up a lot more space than text-only messages, so you may find that your storage space fills up a lot more quickly if you're saving messages with attachments. To see how much space each message is occupying, choose Clean up from anywhere in Mail. You'll see a list of each message, with the amount of space the message is taking up listed on the right side of the screen.
To make room for new messages, you may want to move or delete the messages that are taking up the most storage space. If the thought of getting rid of these messages forever fills you with dread, you may want to forward them to another e-mail account. You might consider adding another user to your box (you can have up to six) and using that e-mail account as a storage area for your large messages.
It doesn't take much effort to set up a handy storage area in Mail, and the payoff is pretty big: messages are more organized, it's easier to get rid of junk, and mail is easy to find again. Give the storage folders a try and see what they can do for you.
